- We are huge Walliams fans in this house and have all the books so far. We were really looking forward to this one. The illustrations are fabulous and it follows the same kind of pattern as his other picture books. However, for us, this just didn’t hit the spot. It was more like he’d written it just because it’s now expected that he churns out two books a year.Get it from the library, but I wouldn’t bother to get it new.
We weren’t so fussed by his last couple of picture book efforts but this is a cracking read, perfect for this time of year with an appealing Halloween theme. Definitely Walliams back to his best. The main character, Howler the young werewolf, is very endearing and the ending is heartwarming but, true to form, Walliams ensures there’s still plenty of cheeky humour woven throughout for good measure. We really enjoyed it.
