- I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!This was one of my hotly anticipated October releases and oh my it did not disappoint. At the turn of the millennium two women give birth on the same ward but only one leaves with a baby. Fast forward 18 years and as the story unwinds your heart will swell and break with equal measure.WARNING – This book causes leaky eye syndrome and I highly advise not having a mouthful of tea when you get to “the full cactus” bit – I nearly ruined my book ♀️I love Dawn French and just about everything she does and I stand in solidarity with her on the whole #jamfirst debacle Her novels are exquisite and if you haven’t read anything of hers yet I’d highly recommend any and all of them.
I purchased this book without seeing any reviews or reading the Prologue. Because I am a great fan of Dawn’s I love her humour and persona, so was so looking forward to reading her humour in a novel sadly I was disappointedI didn’t find anything at all funny, I think the humour was meant in the baby word Wawa and was repeated often which I didn’t find amusing unfortunately.I now know what Dawn gets up to on an afternoon! it was like reading an American soap drama!I feel sure she has watched then written her book, changing slightly the characters and ending. It was like reading deja vu! as I’ve seen this story played out numerous times.Whilst this was an average read, I think it would be more suited to appear in a Women’s Own short story magazine to be read whilst waiting for an appointment. The ending whilst I identified with the message of a Mothers Love, was totally unrealistic unbelievable and could not happen in real life due to the practicalities. I would like to elucidate but don’t want to spoil it for the minority who would enjoy this book.A lot of people who pick up a paint brush think they are Artist’s and the same is said for people who can write a little, they think they are authors. If this was a dress I would be sending back for an immediate refund.
